As to my first interest in horse racing:
My family vacationed every summer at Lake George and my Folks took occasional trips to Saratoga that I was fortunate enough to join in on. I was First taken by the Magnificence of The Horses and all the Brilliant Colors of the Silks. Favorite Track and Why: To me It’s VERY CLEAR, Saratoga!! My 1st Track, The CHARM of the entire Town and The Track being the Centerpiece of everything. The charm of the Age (barns, backstretch coffee shop, restaurants, museum, The Climate, everything !!!!).
Favorite Horse and Why:
I always had a Love for Sunday Silence, and more recently Independence Hall through an earlier affiliation, but Clearly now FUNNY HOW!! She has been Amazing and Just an ABSOLUTE BLAST to share with our Partners and an unforgettable experience!!
My Best or worst wagering story:
It goes back to my becoming Hooke initially in the Triple Crown Races. In 1976, while Bold Forbes and Honest Pleasure were believed to be heads and shoulders better than the rest of the field, and Honest Pleasure’s connection saying that they mistakenly let Bold Forbes get too much of a lead in The Derby that they would try to get out with him in the Preakness. I took a shot they they would wear each other out and Elocutionist might be there to pick up the pieces!! Not often enough, but I was right on that occasion!
Key wagering strategy:
I’ve traditionally tried to throw a long shot in with a couple favorites to try to make a score in a trifecta box, but since I’ve been fortunate enough to spend quite a few occasions at the track (bar) with Matt, I’ve really taken to the Pick 5! The building of excitement with each leg (if still alive) is Great, and now my preferred bet.
Changes I would make to help grow our sport:
I would make One Distinct Move. I would Hire Michael Repole and turn him loose to do as he sees fit! His willingness to break the mold of what has always been and be open to change along with his PASSION and foresight into how to grow gates, purses, payouts, and to bring more Young people in would benefit us all exponentially!!
Favorite Jockey:
It has been Johnny V for years and I was thrilled that he rode my first horse, unsuccessfully but certainly not his fault. Now, as I’ve been able to meet and spend time around some of our riders, They are my Favorites. Certainly, and without Question, My Favorite now is Katie Davis!! The many times I’ve seen her in the barn in the morning and being able to see her interaction with these horses has been enlightening and inspiring. Katie has, in my opinion, a unique and Special Bond with Funny How!! She Loves these horses and takes the time to get to know each of their tendencies and has been able to capitalize on that for all of our benefits!! Katy, is #1!!
My Best Moment as an Owner Is:
My Son Bryan has recently become an Owner with Adelphi and to be able to Share this Incredible Ride and Rush of Emotion with him is second to none!!
What Race Id Like to Win:
I guess would be any Graded Stakes Win at Saratoga !
The Toughest Aspect of owning horse:
Any medical set back.
Favorite Restaurant:
Because I LOVE Going to The Barn in the morning, my night life probably might be a night cap at Siro’s and early to bed to start all over about 5:00 am!! So, maybe the Backstretch Coffee Shop??
Favorite Breeder’s Cup Venue:
Keeneland, Santa Anita and BELMONT PARK!
3 Dinner Guests From Racing:
I guess other than Matt Cutair and Raymond Handal (two Guys I continue to learn from and Enjoy being with), Michael Repole for the Education and laughs!
