ABOUT GEM MINT TEN:
We have assembled a team of top trainers and bloodstock agents to hit the sales this fall. Joe Migliore and Ray Handal found this robust Laoban yearling at the Fasig Tipton NY Bred Sale. This colt is a physical standout by a stallion know for sending precocious runners to the track
As a New York Bred colt, he is part of the New York State breeding program which is one of the most lucrative in the country. New York Breds can run in restricted races at every level with large purses solely for horses bred in New York. At each track, the New York Racing Association cards New York Showcase days. Most recently, the Saratoga Showcase was held on August 27 and featured six stakes with a combined $1.15 million in purse money. There are also New York Bred owner incentives offered within the state, such as owners’ awards that are available for open-company races in New York with a minimum claiming price of $30,000. He is eligible to receive an additional 10 percent of the purse money for first through third place finishes, capped at $20,000 per award.
Gem Mint Ten is out of producer Dixie Gem and the late freakishly athletic Grade 2 Jim Dandy winner LAOBAN. LAOBAN had instant success as a stallion producing 2year old stakes winners SIMPLY RAVISHING [G1], KEEPMEINMIND [G2] and LAOBANONAPRAYER. Graded an A by True Nicks, this pedigree contains crosses between Dixieland Band, Storm Cat and Mr. Prospector, which has produced HARVEST MOON [G2] and MO MOZA [G3].
He is currently at Kings Equine in Ocala, Florida. Kings is a world-class thoroughbred training facility owned and operated by Martha and Raul Reyes. A seasoned horseman, Raul is most famous for breaking Beholder and Jimmy Creed.
